Back in London

August 21, 2015 § Leave a comment

Thursday night. Two talkative men on the south end of a northbound Piccadilly line journey. One drunk suit trying to make small-talk with a grandma and a trio of young women. Sounds somewhat unhinged. The second guy identifies as disabled and starts a conversation with me about the first, and then moves on to talk about his job: trying to make Transport for London more disability-friendly. Weekly meetings with Boris Johnson and David Cameron, who both say they are willing but strapped for cash. “It’s tough,” he says before he gets off the train. Without the drunk suit, our conversation probably wouldn’t have happened.
